Trump orders investigation into Bill Clinton’s ties with Epstein
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has directed an investigation into the connections between convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and high-profile Democrats, including former President Bill Clinton.
The directive follows the release of roughly 20,000 pages of documents from Epstein’s estate by the US House Oversight Committee, which prompted some Democrats to spotlight Trump’s previous association with the financier.
In a post on Truth Social on Friday, Trump stated that he instructed Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice to examine “Jeffrey Epstein’s involvement and relationship” with Clinton, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, and JPMorgan Chase. He described the scrutiny as “the Epstein Hoax” being used by Democrats to divert attention from the government shutdown “and all of their other failures.”
Bondi confirmed that US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton, has been assigned to oversee the investigation.
Epstein, who reportedly died by suicide in prison in 2019, had ties to numerous wealthy and influential individuals. Clinton stated in his 2024 memoirs that he “had no inkling” of Epstein’s criminal activities and ended contact with him after Epstein’s 2006 arrest. Trump likewise claimed he was unaware of Epstein’s offenses and severed ties in the early 2000s.
In 2023, JPMorgan, one of the country’s largest banks, reached a settlement with the US Virgin Islands over allegations that it retained Epstein as a client after his 2006 arrest and benefited from sex trafficking. A JPMorgan spokesperson, Trish Wexler, said the government had not provided “damning information” about Epstein to the bank, adding, “We regret any association we had with the man, but did not help him commit his heinous acts.”
Reports indicate that House Democrats plan to vote on Tuesday to compel the Department of Justice to release the remaining unredacted files connected to the Epstein case.
