Poland Secures Artillery Fleet in Defense Deal with S. Korea
(MENAFN) Poland received a fresh batch of 21 South Korean-manufactured K9 self-propelled howitzers Sunday, marking another significant milestone in Warsaw's multibillion-dollar defense modernization partnership with Seoul, Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed.
Kosiniak-Kamysz disclosed via the US social media platform X that military installations near Torun—a city in north-central Poland—accepted delivery of the 21 artillery systems, pushing the nation's K9 inventory beyond the 200-unit threshold.
"More will soon be successively delivered to equip our units," he added.
A Polish broadcaster reported that Warsaw finalized a $2.4 billion procurement agreement with Seoul in 2022—shortly after hostilities erupted between Russia and Ukraine—to acquire 212 K9 howitzers with deliveries concluding by 2026. A subsequent 2023 contract valued at $2.6 billion authorized procurement of an additional 152 howitzers scheduled for arrival between 2025 and 2027.
Beyond the K9 artillery acquisitions, Poland has secured purchase orders for South Korean K2 main battle tanks, Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher systems, and FA-50 fighter-trainer aircraft.
