Eleven people pass away following landslide in Indonesia
(MENAFN) The death toll from a landslide in Indonesia’s Central Java province has risen to 11, with 12 people still unaccounted for as rescue teams continue their operations, according to general reports.
M. Abdullah, head of the Search and Rescue Office in Cilacap where the landslide occurred, said authorities are intensifying efforts to locate the remaining missing individuals. “Hopefully, all 12 victims who are still buried can be found,” he stated during coverage by local media.
Abdullah noted that Sunday’s operations involved hundreds of personnel and heavy equipment, including excavators. “We have deployed 21 excavators, 17 compressor support tools, nine search dogs, and more than 600 personnel,” he said.
Earlier reports from Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency indicated that following the landslide on Thursday in Cilacap, three people had been confirmed dead and 20 were initially listed as missing.
