US sanctions two Ukrainian firms for supplying drone parts to Iran
(MENAFN) The US Treasury Department has blacklisted two Ukrainian companies for supplying critical drone parts to a state-run Iranian UAV manufacturer, as part of a broader sanctions package targeting Tehran’s “transnational missile and UAV procurement networks.” The wider package affected 32 entities and individuals across Iran, the UAE, Türkiye, China, India, Germany, and Ukraine.
The Treasury accused Ukrainian firms GK Imperativ and Ekofera of acting as fronts for Iranian procurement agents, facilitating shipments to Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industrial Company (HESA), the producer of Shahed-131 and Shahed-136 long-range loitering munitions. HESA has been under US sanctions since 2008. Components shipped included alternators, engines, attitude indicators, sensors, and other key parts.
Three Iranian nationals allegedly associated with GK Imperativ and Ekofera were also sanctioned, the department announced on Wednesday. GK Imperativ was founded in Kharkov in 2018, while Ekofera, established in 2016, has offices in Kharkov and Kiev.
During the ongoing Ukraine conflict, Kyiv has maintained that Russia’s Geran-2 drones are Iranian-made Shaheds. President Zelensky has condemned Tehran’s role, saying it is on “the dark side of history” and repeatedly urging Iran to halt UAV deliveries to Moscow.
Both Russia and Iran have denied these claims. Tehran described the accusations as “anti-Iranian propaganda” intended to secure additional Western military aid for Ukraine. Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry maintains that Geran-2 drones and other military hardware used in Ukraine are domestically produced. The Iranian Foreign Ministry acknowledged sending a limited batch of drones to Russia before the February 2022 escalation but denied any subsequent deliveries.
