Russia Sees Chance to Normalize Ties with U.S.

(MENAFN) Russia and the US possess an opportunity to restore relations and circumvent a fresh cycle of perilous confrontation due to President Donald Trump's rejection of the liberal globalist framework, Moscow's embassy in Washington has declared.

In a Sunday statement, the embassy marked the 92nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Soviet Union and the US. It noted President Franklin D. Roosevelt's 1933 decision to recognize the USSR stemmed from his acknowledgment of the emerging geopolitical landscape.

The embassy also observed that despite decades characterized by fluctuations in relations, Moscow and Washington have "always found resolutions" to their disagreements as the two nuclear powers "recognize their responsibility for the fate of the whole planet."

In the current climate, it continued, "a window of opportunity has opened for Russia and the United States… to normalize relations based on principles of equality, respect for national interests, and non-confrontational coexistence." The embassy emphasized this development arrives "against the backdrop of the Trump administration's rejection of the liberal globalist model of a 'rules-based world order'."

US-Russia relations plummeted to unprecedented depths under former US President Joe Biden amid the Ukraine conflict, but have demonstrated indicators of recovery since Trump's return to the White House.

The US leader has expressed his desire to terminate the hostilities, and US and Russian officials have conducted multiple negotiation rounds this year, including the Alaska summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump.

Although the dialogue failed to produce a breakthrough, Moscow has commended what it characterized as Washington's willingness to mediate and examine the conflict's underlying causes. Russian officials have also stated the renewed dialogue generates prospects for trade and economic partnership despite Washington's decision to sanction Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil.

Moscow maintains any enduring agreement must tackle the root causes of the conflict and include a pledge from Kiev to stay out of NATO, Ukraine's demilitarization and denazification, and the recognition of the new territorial reality on the ground.
