Trump seeks sacking late night host

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has urged NBC to dismiss late-night host Seth Meyers following the comedian’s latest on-air criticism of the president. The clash erupted after Meyers delivered a segment sharply attacking Trump during Thursday’s episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers.

In the show, Meyers called Trump “the most unpopular president of all time.” He pointed to a poll indicating the president’s approval rating had fallen to 33%, a ten-point drop since March. Meyers added that “a sizable portion” of Republican voters had grown “frustrated” with Trump over his defense of H1-B visas in a recent television interview and his failure to follow through on his promise to release the Epstein files.

Trump responded on Sunday through a post on his Truth Social account, accusing Meyers of “suffering from an incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS).” He also claimed the comedian was “in an uncontrollable rage, likely due to the fact that his ‘show’ is a Ratings DISASTER.” Trump went further, writing that “Aside from everything else, Meyers has no talent, and NBC should fire him, IMMEDIATELY!”

Since returning to office, Trump has frequently targeted late-night personalities who have criticized or mocked him. Earlier this year, he applauded the cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s program and argued that Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon should also be taken off the air.

Kimmel’s own show was suspended in September after the Federal Communications Commission chairman, Brendan Carr, warned that ABC risked losing its broadcasting license in response to the comedian’s remarks concerning the assassination of Conservative activist Charlie Kirk. During that segment, Kimmel accused Trump of lacking compassion and suggested Republicans were using Kirk’s death to “score political points.”

The suspension triggered backlash from Democrats, who condemned the situation as an assault on free expression. Representative Yassamin Ansari of Arizona argued that “Silencing critics through government power is the playbook of authoritarian regimes.”
