Ukrainian Drones Strike Civilian, Industrial Targets in Russia
(MENAFN) More than 60 Ukrainian drones targeted civilian structures and an oil refinery in the southern Russian port city of Novorossiysk, located in Krasnodar Region, on Friday, according to local officials.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that its air defense systems intercepted 66 Ukrainian drones aimed at the region, while another 59 drones were intercepted over the Black Sea during the night.
Local Governor Veniamin Kondratyev stated that Novorossiysk bore the brunt of the assault. He noted that debris from the downed drones damaged at least four apartment buildings and two private residences. One man sustained injuries and was hospitalized.
Over 170 emergency personnel, along with 50 pieces of equipment, were deployed to extinguish fires and assist affected residents.
Novorossiysk Mayor Andrey Kravchenko confirmed the city experienced a “massive UAV attack” and declared a state of emergency.
He reported that fragments from the drones struck multiple locations, including apartment buildings, causing damage to windows and facades. Vehicles parked in residential courtyards were also impacted.
Kravchenko further stated that debris from the destroyed drones struck critical infrastructure, including the Sheskharis oil terminal, a container terminal, and a storage tank owned by Chernomortransneft.
He mentioned that a fire broke out at one of the terminals but was quickly brought under control.
The governor also said that debris hit a civilian vessel in the port, injuring three crew members who were subsequently hospitalized.
