Over Ten Reported Dead in Indonesia Landslide

(MENAFN) Indonesian rescue operations have unearthed eight additional bodies Saturday during the third day of emergency response efforts following a catastrophic landslide in Cibeunying Village, Cilacap Regency, Central Java Province, elevating total confirmed fatalities to 11 while 10 individuals remain unaccounted for, officials announced.

Muhammad Abdullah, director of the Cilacap Search and Rescue Office, reported that victims were extracted from multiple disaster sites throughout the day.

"A total of eight victims were found on the third day of search operations," he said.

Rescue crews suspended operations late Saturday afternoon as deteriorating weather conditions threatened personnel safety. Teams plan to restart recovery missions early Sunday morning with enhanced safety protocols, Abdullah confirmed.

"We ask for the prayers of all Indonesians so that this search and rescue operation proceeds safely and smoothly, and that all victims can be found soon," he said.

The disaster unfolded Thursday evening when torrential downpours triggered devastating landslides that slammed into the Cibuyut and Tarukahan hamlets of Cibeunying Village in Cilacap Regency.

Search teams continue working against challenging terrain and unstable conditions as they race to locate the remaining missing persons buried beneath layers of mud and debris.
