Iran Pushes Back Against NATO Chief's Russia Claims
(MENAFN) Iran has forcefully dismissed accusations from NATO's top official alleging that Tehran and Moscow are working in tandem to destabilize international governance structures.
Esmaeil Baghaei, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, delivered a sharp rebuttal during his regular Monday briefing, flipping the allegations back onto Western military alliance members.
The diplomat argued that NATO countries routinely engage in the very conduct they attribute to rival nations, asserting that objective evidence reveals which parties have actually breached the UN Charter and international legal frameworks—Iran or NATO states.
Baghaei pointed to Washington's military presence in Afghanistan and what he termed "crimes" committed there as a prime example, stating: "Over the past year, law-breaking and violation of international law by the United States and certain other NATO members have turned into a recurring pattern."
The spokesperson characterized the United States—which he described as NATO's dominant power—as a destabilizing force threatening global peace and security.
He branded NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's statements as nothing more than a "worthless projection and accusation against Iran."
