Two Transgender Individual Shot Dead In Lakki Marwat As Violence Against Community Surges Across KP
The cycle of violence against the transgender community in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa shows no sign of slowing, as two transgender persons were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Lakki Marwat on Monday night.
Police said the attack took place near the vegetable market in Sarai Naurang. The victims, known as Zakir and Dollar, were killed when assailants opened fire at their dera. According to Sarai Naurang SHO Amir Khan, police have registered an FIR of the double murder and begun investigation, though neither the motive nor the identities of the attackers have yet been determined.
Incidents of violence continue to rise. In recent years, KP has witnessed a sharp increase in attacks on transgender individuals. On July 8 this year, Asad was killed at Tehkal Plaza in Peshawar, while on July 1, a transgender person named Titli was allegedly shot in Gulbahar for refusing a friendship proposal.

She said the government and state institutions had failed to provide the community with protection.
She said families often disown their children during their lifetime but reconcile with the killers after their murder, closing the door to justice. Even if a guru wants to pursue the case, they become powerless once families agree to a settlement. She urged courts to reject such compromise agreements, ensure trials reach their logical conclusion, and introduce an effective protection policy.
Human rights activist Taimur Kamal said weak FIRs and poor police investigations are major factors behind the rising attacks. Without stronger investigations and decisive judicial action, he warned, the violence cannot be curbed.
Reports of attacks have also surfaced from other parts of the country. In September 2025, three transgender persons were shot dead by unidentified attackers in Karachi. Community members caution that without firm and clear measures at the state level, the situation could escalate further.
