Paula Lorgelly

Paula is a Professor of Health Economics at the University of Auckland. This is joint post across the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (School of Population Health; Health Systems) and School of Business (Department of Economics).
After completing her training in economics in New Zealand Paula moved to the United Kingdom, which at the time was one of the most stimulating health economics research environments globally. She has held academic positions in the United Kingdom (Nottingham, University of East Anglia, Glasgow, University College London), Australia (Monash) and a visiting position in Germany (Göttingen), and in the independent sector in the United Kingdom (Office of Health Economics).
Paula's research interests span three defined areas in health economics: the determinants of health and healthcare, economic evaluation and outcome measurement. She has worked across the health and medical spectrum and much of her research focuses on cancer, and more recently on long COVID. Paula has experience applying a range of methodologies including the analysis of trial data, decision analytic modelling, econometric analyses of health surveys including panel data, preference elicitation using discrete choice experiments and qualitative analyses.
