Arab League To Dispatch Mission To Monitor Iraqi Elections


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Nov 6 (KUNA) -- The Arab League announced on Thursday the dispatch of a mission to Iraq to observe the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled next Tuesday, in response to an invitation from the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission.
In a statement, the League said that the mission will be headed by Assistant Secretary-General Ambassador Dr. Faeed Mustafa, and will include a number of staff members from the General Secretariat representing five Arab nationalities.
The mission will issue a preliminary statement after the completion of the observation process, followed by a final report containing detailed observations and relevant recommendations, which will be submitted to Iraqi authorities, the statement added.
It affirmed the League's hope that the elections would be conducted in a safe and transparent conditions reflecting Iraqi people's free will. (end)
