China says unresolved Iranian nuclear issue not in global interest
(MENAFN) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday that failing to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue is “not in the interests of the international community,” during a phone call with Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, according to reports.
Wang described the current stalemate in the political settlement process as contrary to “the common interests of the international community” and welcomed Iran’s recent reaffirmation that it has no plans to develop nuclear weapons while supporting Tehran’s “right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.” He called on all parties to maintain dialogue and negotiations to bring the issue back on track.
Araghchi expressed gratitude to China for “upholding a just position and playing a positive role on the Iranian nuclear issue” and reiterated Iran’s readiness to strengthen communication and coordination with all parties based on equality and mutual benefit.
Wang added that China is willing to collaborate with Iran to “implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, promote development and rejuvenation, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation,” and further enhance the countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership. Araghchi noted that next year marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Iran and China, describing it as an opportunity to “strengthen high-level exchanges, explore cooperation potential, and maintain mutual support.”
