Trump says S. Africa should be removed from G20

(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he will not take part in the upcoming G20 Summit in Johannesburg, arguing that South Africa no longer deserves a place in the international forum, according to reports.

"South Africa shouldn't even be in the G's anymore, because what's happened there is bad," Trump said during remarks at the American Business Forum in Miami.

Referring to the summit scheduled for Nov. 22–23, he added: "I'm not going ... I'm not going to represent our country there. It shouldn't be there."

Trump has repeatedly accused South Africa of engaging in land seizures and mistreating segments of its population, calling it "a massive human rights violation."

Earlier this year, he questioned why Washington should attend the event, stating: "How could we be expected to go to South Africa for the very important G20 meeting when land confiscation and genocide are the primary topics of conversation?"

In February, Trump signed Executive Order 14204, directing U.S. agencies to assist in the relocation of white South African Afrikaners—described in the order as “victims of unjust racial discrimination”—while also ordering a halt to American aid to the country.

Officials in Pretoria dismissed the accusations, saying they “rest on a premise that is factually inaccurate,” and reiterated that U.S.-South Africa relations should be based on mutual respect and factual understanding.
