Putin Hails Russia's New Nuclear Weapons As 'Guarantee Of Strategic Balance'

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Russian President Vladimir Putin hailed Russia's latest nuclear-capable weapons as key to ensuring the nation's long-term“security and strategic balance” amid rising tensions with the West.
Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the country's latest generation of nuclear-capable weapons during a ceremony in Moscow, calling them vital to maintaining“security and strategic balance” in the 21st century. His remarks highlighted Moscow's growing emphasis on advanced deterrence technologies amid ongoing tensions with the West.

Addressing the engineers and designers behind Russia's military programs, Putin singled out the“Burevestnik” nuclear-powered cruise missile and the“Poseidon” nuclear submarine drone as milestones of strategic innovation. He described their development as a“historic achievement” that would secure Russia's global military standing for decades to come.

According to Russian state media, the Burevestnik missile can travel more than three times the speed of sound and evade any existing missile defence systems using a compact nuclear reactor for propulsion. Putin claimed that during one of its recent tests, a NATO warship was present near the launch site.

The Russian leader also announced that mass production of the“Arsenik” missile system had begun. The weapon, reportedly first deployed in Ukraine in November 2024, is part of a new class of long-range precision missiles designed to enhance Russia's strike capabilities.

Western defence analysts have expressed concern that these advancements could escalate an already strained security environment. The U.S. and NATO have not verified Moscow's claims, cautioning that Russia's statements often serve both strategic signalling and domestic propaganda purposes.

Military experts note that Putin's renewed focus on nuclear-powered and autonomous weapons reflects Russia's efforts to counterbalance NATO's technological edge and reaffirm its deterrent posture amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The Kremlin's unveiling of these weapons, analysts say, underscores the deepening divide between Russia and the West - a divide now defined as much by military technology as by geopolitical rivalry.
