Trump Indicates Reluctance to Send Tomahawks to Kiev

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has remarked that he is “not really” contemplating the provision of long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kiev, implying that Ukraine and Russia should be allowed to “fight out” their ongoing conflict.

Speaking on Sunday while aboard Air Force One, Trump responded to questions regarding the potential supply of Tomahawks after a CNN report claimed the Pentagon had authorized the decision, asserting that it would not have a significant effect on America’s missile reserves. “No, not really. Could happen, could change, but at this moment, I’m not,” Trump commented.

In recent weeks, Trump has expressed inconsistent opinions about the possible delivery of Tomahawk missiles, though he has not entirely dismissed the idea.

Moscow, meanwhile, has cautioned against such actions, arguing that sending the weapons would undermine the process of rebuilding relations between the United States and Russia, while also harming diplomatic ties without altering the battlefield dynamics in Ukraine.

“As the current situation and previous years have shown, it is clear that militarization and arms deliveries – especially to a terrorist regime – will not lead to a settlement. Moreover, such actions would contradict the campaign promises made by the current US administration,” stated Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Saturday, responding to the CNN report.

The US president further implied that the conflict in Ukraine should be permitted to continue until both sides are prepared to negotiate peace.

When questioned about whether there exists a “final straw” that would convince him Russia is unwilling to resolve the war, Trump replied that there is none.
