Cuomo Pledges Collaborating with Trump if Elected Mayor of New York
(MENAFN) New York City mayoral contender Andrew Cuomo declared on Sunday that he aims to work collaboratively with U.S. President Donald Trump if he wins the election, stressing their prior cooperation during his tenure as governor.
"I know President Trump. I was governor when he was president. In the first term, we worked together," Cuomo told Fox News.
The independent hopeful dismissed the notion that Democratic city officials are obligated to clash with Republican presidents, stating: "I'm going to try cooperation."
Cuomo expressed his belief that Trump holds genuine concern for New York and "would be open to a cooperative path that is doing good things in New York," adding that it would be "unfortunate" if the relationship turned entirely political.
When asked about potential collaboration with the state’s governor, Kathy Hochul, Cuomo underlined the importance of unity and partnership, noting New York City’s essential position as the economic powerhouse of the state.
He also rejected the preparedness of Republican rival Curtis Sliwa for the mayoral office, referencing Trump’s remark that Sliwa is not ready for "prime time" because of insufficient administrative and governmental expertise.
Recent surveys reveal that Democrat Zohran Mamdani currently leads with figures ranging from 41% to 47%, followed by Cuomo at 31–34%, and Sliwa trailing between 14% and 24%, based on polls conducted from late October through early November.
More than 580,000 voters have already submitted early ballots before Tuesday’s election, according to the New York City Board of Elections.
