U.S. Executes Strike on Caribbean Narco-Trafficking Vessel
(MENAFN) Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared on Saturday that the United States conducted another deadly operation targeting a narcotics-smuggling ship in the Caribbean.
"Today, at the direction of President Trump, the Department of War carried out a lethal kinetic strike on another narco-trafficking vessel operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization (DTO) in the Caribbean," Hegseth posted on US social media platform X.
He highlighted that intelligence from the U.S. had identified the vessel as participating in illegal drug trafficking.
"Three male narco-terrorists were aboard the vessel during the strike, which was conducted in international waters. All three terrorists were killed, and no U.S. forces were harmed in this strike," he added.
Since September, Washington has launched more than a dozen such operations, primarily in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of at least 64 individuals.
Human rights organizations and legal analysts have raised concerns over the legitimacy of these actions, asserting that U.S. strikes against suspected drug ships may contravene international law.
UN human rights chief Volker Turk condemned the attacks as “unacceptable” and called for an independent inquiry into what his office described as extrajudicial killings.
