Iran Stands Firm on Uranium Enrichment
(MENAFN) Iran will continue its uranium enrichment program despite mounting pressure from the United States and its allies, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated.
Speaking to media on Saturday, Araghchi said the U.S. and Israeli airstrikes in June failed to dismantle the program, which Iran insists is strictly for civilian purposes. While some “nuclear materials remain buried under the rubble,” the technology “remains intact,” he added.
“We cannot stop uranium enrichment, and what is not achieved by war cannot be achieved through political means.”
Araghchi indicated that Tehran is still willing to engage with the U.S. through indirect negotiations, but only if Washington abandons what he called “impossible and unacceptable preconditions.”
He also made clear that Iran’s missile program is non-negotiable. “It would be foolish if one hands over their weapons.”
The Omani-mediated talks between the U.S. and Iran were halted after Israel launched a 12-day bombing campaign earlier this year.
Tensions have escalated further following the EU and UK’s reimposition of sanctions last month—penalties that had been lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal, which the U.S. exited during President Donald Trump’s first term. Tehran has since declared it is no longer bound by the agreement, which officially expired in October.
