Israeli fighter jet attack injures one in Lebanon despite truce
(MENAFN) A Lebanese civilian was injured on Saturday after Israeli fighter jets launched an airstrike on the southern town of Kfar Sir, in what authorities described as another breach of the ceasefire agreement reached roughly a year ago, according to the Health Ministry.
The attack followed a deadly day on Friday, when two people were killed and another wounded in Israeli strikes targeting motorcycles in Lebanon’s Nabatieh province.
Tensions have continued to escalate along the Lebanese-Israeli border in recent weeks, with Israel intensifying aerial bombardments across southern towns despite the truce that has been in place since late November 2024.
According to reports, Israel’s public broadcaster said Tel Aviv is weighing a potential escalation of its military operations in Lebanon, citing the need to counter Hezbollah’s alleged efforts to strengthen its military presence.
The Israeli army’s campaign, which began in October 2023 and expanded into a full-scale offensive by September 2024, has so far killed over 4,000 people and injured nearly 17,000 others in Lebanon, according to local sources.
Under the ceasefire terms, Israeli forces were expected to complete a full withdrawal from southern Lebanon by January 2025. However, the army only conducted a partial retreat and continues to occupy five outposts near the border, maintaining an ongoing military presence in violation of the agreement.
