Putin Sends Early Republic Day Greetings to Erdogan

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended an early congratulatory message to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in honor of Republic Day, which Türkiye observes on Oct. 29, according to the Kremlin on Wednesday.

“There are no plans for a phone call today, but, of course, a congratulatory message from the president of Russia was sent in advance,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov informed journalists in Moscow.

Republic Day commemorates the founding of the Republic of Türkiye in 1923, when the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye officially declared the nation a republic and appointed Mustafa Kemal Atatürk as its inaugural president.

The celebration remains one of the most significant national holidays in Türkiye.

Addressing ongoing tensions between the United States and Venezuela, Peskov emphasized that all conflicts should be settled in accordance with international law.

“Venezuela is a sovereign state, and in any case, we proceed from the fact that everything that happens around Venezuela must happen in accordance with the spirit and letter of international law,” he stated.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has consistently warned that the nation is confronting its most severe threat of invasion from the US in the last hundred years.

According to US media, Washington has accused Caracas of failing to curb drug trafficking.

In September, the US Navy deployed eight ships, a nuclear submarine, and roughly 10,000 troops to the Caribbean Sea, reportedly destroying at least nine high-speed vessels allegedly used for drug smuggling.
