Tusk Addresses Ukraine's Resolve, Russia's Economic Struggles

(MENAFN) Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk revealed on Sunday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed him that Ukraine is prepared to continue its battle against Russia for "another two to three years."

Tusk shared this insight during an interview with a media outlet, explaining that their discussion, which took place on Thursday, focused on the ongoing war in Ukraine and the growing Russian threat to Europe.

Tusk expressed confidence in Ukraine's ability to remain an independent nation.

He emphasized that the central issue now is the number of lives that will be lost in the conflict. According to Tusk, Zelenskyy expressed hope that the war would not last a decade, though he confirmed that Ukraine is ready to fight on for another two or three years.

The Polish Prime Minister also pointed out that although Russia is facing severe long-term economic difficulties, new US sanctions targeting Russia's oil industry have yet to diminish its military resolve.

Tusk noted that the Russian economy is in a "really serious" state of distress, but this does not imply victory for the West.

He pointed out that Russia holds a significant advantage: its willingness to continue fighting.

Tusk also shared his personal reflection on Europe's response to the crisis, stating that he feels a sense of "bitter satisfaction" after years of warning about Russia’s aggression.

He added that Europe has entered "the end of an era of illusions," acknowledging that while it's too late to fully prepare for all possible threats, it is not too late for Europe to survive.
