Russia Tests Nuclear Deterrence Triad
(MENAFN) Russia has recently carried out tests on various components of its nuclear deterrence triad, including land, sea, and air-based systems, as shown in video footage released by the Russian Ministry of Defense in Moscow.
These drills were supervised by President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday.
The exercises included the launch of a Yars intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) from the Plesetsk state test cosmodrome located in northern Russia.
The missile was aimed at a test site in Kamchatka, located in the country’s Far East.
Footage of the test depicted both the preparation for the launch and the missile’s subsequent liftoff.
Additionally, the drills featured the launch of a sea-based Sineva ICBM from the Russian nuclear submarine Bryansk, stationed in the Barents Sea.
The exercises also involved air-launched cruise missiles fired from TU-95 strategic bombers, according to the Ministry of Defense.
Russia’s Chief of General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, informed Putin that the drills also focused on “practicing the procedure for authorizing the use of nuclear weapons.”
These exercises were conducted just over a month after the Russian-Belarusian Zapad-2025 drills, which involved over 41 training grounds and 100,000 service members, and were observed by military officials from several countries, including the US.
