BRUSSELS, Oct 21 (KUNA) -- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Tuesday congratulated Japan's new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on her election as the first woman to hold the position in Japan's history, describing the event as a "historic moment."
In a post on X, von der Leyen said, "Warm congratulations, Sanae Takaichi, on your election as Japan's Prime Minister," adding that her election "marks a milestone in women's leadership."
She expressed her eagerness to work closely with the new Japanese Prime Minister "to take the unique EU-Japan partnership to the next level," emphasizing the importance of enhancing cooperation in the fields of competitiveness and security.
