The Torkham border crossing, a key trade and transit point between Pakistan and Afghanistan , remained closed for the third consecutive day, bringing all bilateral trade and pedestrian movement to a halt amid escalating tensions between the two countries.

According to security sources, thousands of cargo trucks have been stranded on both sides of the border, severely disrupting the flow of goods, including essential food supplies.

Major Economic Losses on Both Sides

Speaking to the media, Qari Nazim Gul Shinwari, a senior customs clearing agent and a local leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), said that the ongoing closure is causing daily losses worth millions of rupees to the national exchequers of both countries

He added that traders, drivers, and customs agents are also suffering significant financial setbacks.

“The border closure is damaging not just governments, but also the livelihoods of thousands of individuals directly dependent on cross-border trade,” Shinwari said.

Call for Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution

Qari Nazim Gul urged both Pakistani and Afghan authorities to resolve their disputes through dialogue to restore trade operations and allow stranded travelers to cross the border.

“War is not a solution to any issue. Pakistan and Afghanistan must take practical steps toward peace and stability to prevent further losses for ordinary people and traders,” he emphasized.
