Xi Urges Global Collaboration to Advance Women's Development

(MENAFN) China’s President Xi Jinping on Monday called for worldwide backing for the advancement of women and emphasized that it is a collective duty of the global community.

He committed $10 million to the United Nations fund to support this cause.

Xi presented four initiatives aimed at bolstering the international women’s movement, including the need to “build a wider consensus, open up broader pathways, and take more practical actions for this cause."

Speaking at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing, according to state-run media, the event commemorated the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, which took place in Beijing in 1995.

Highlighting that the comprehensive progress of women “is still facing complex challenges,” he also suggested “jointly establishing a governance pattern to protect women's rights and interests, and writing a new chapter in promoting global women's cooperation.”

Xi revealed that in the coming five years, “China will donate an additional 10 million US dollars to UN Women, and China will earmark 100 million dollars from the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund for cooperation with international organizations on projects to promote women's and girls' development.”

“China will support 1,000 small and beautiful livelihood projects for women and girls as the priority beneficiaries, and invite 50,000 women to China for exchange and training programs,” he further added.

In addition, Xi announced that China plans to create a center dedicated to enhancing global women’s capacity-building.

This center will collaborate with relevant countries and international organizations to nurture more exceptional female professionals.
