Over 11,100 Palestinian Prisoners In Israeli Jails, Organizations
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Ramallah, Oct 8 (Petra) – More than 11,100 Palestinian prisoners have been held in Israeli detention centers until October 1, 2025, Palestinian prisoner organizations said Wednesday.
The figure, the highest since the start of the Al-Aqsa Intifada (uprising) in 2000, does not include detainees from the Gaza Strip held in Israeli army detention camps, they said in a joint statement.
According to Israel's Prison Service, the number of detainees serving sentences was more than 1,460, and about 350 sentenced to life terms or were indicted and facing life sentences, including 303 convicted people.
Abdullah Barghouti is the longest held Palestinian prisoners serving 67 life terms, followed by Ibrahim Hamed with 54 life terms, they said.
Among them were 17 veteran prisoners, including 4 who had been repeatedly detained after their release since 1986, the organizations said. They named them as Ibrahim Abu Mukh, Ibrahim Bayadseh, Ahmed Abu Jaber, and Samir Abu Nimah.
They said 131 prisoners were serving 10-to-20-year sentences and 166 serving 21 to 30 years.
Among the prisoners were 53 women, including three from the Gaza Strip, and two girls, along with more than 400 children held in Ofer and Megiddo prisons, they said.
About 3,380 Palestinians were awaiting trial, according to the Israeli Prison Service, in addition to some 3,544 people held in so-called administrative detention, said the organizations.
