Shooting Claims Man’s Life in Australia’s Sydney

(MENAFN) A man was killed in a shooting Wednesday evening in Sydney's outer northwest, prompting a major police investigation that now spans two crime scenes.

Emergency crews were dispatched around 6 p.m. to Riverstone, approximately 38 kilometers from Sydney’s central business district, following reports of gunfire in a public area, according to a police statement.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man with gunshot wounds. Paramedics attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Australian media reported that the victim, whose identity has not been confirmed, sustained a gunshot wound to the head.

Roughly 15 minutes later, authorities responded to a second incident—a vehicle engulfed in flames nearby. Fire and rescue teams managed to extinguish the blaze, but the car was completely destroyed.

Police have cordoned off both locations as forensic teams examine the sites. Investigators are working to determine whether the car fire is connected to the fatal shooting.
