(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted on Tuesday evening that the Russian armed forces currently hold complete strategic initiative in the ongoing special military operation, according to a Kremlin press release.

During a meeting in St. Petersburg with senior leaders from the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff, and commanders managing the operation zone, Putin emphasized the substantial territorial advances achieved by Russian forces this year, noting that nearly 5,000 square kilometers—specifically 4,900—and 212 settlements have been reclaimed.

He also commended Russia’s defense-industrial sector for maintaining a reliable flow of high-precision weapons, ammunition, and military equipment to the forces. Putin emphasized that, beyond scheduled deliveries, new weapons systems are being developed and deployed ahead of plan.

Addressing ongoing conflict dynamics, Putin noted the Ukrainian forces’ retreat across the entire frontline despite “stubborn resistance.” He accused Ukraine of launching strikes deep into Russian territory targeting “completely peaceful targets.”

“Our task is to ensure the security of Russian citizens, strategic facilities, and civilian infrastructure, including energy sites,” Putin concluded.
