UN Welcomes US Court Ruling Upholding UNRWA Immunity
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
New York, October 4 (Petra) – The UN welcomed a decision by the US District Court for the Southern District of New York to dismiss a lawsuit filed in June 2024 against the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and several of its current and former officials.
UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq told the Jordan News Agency (Petra), "We welcome this decision, which recognises the immunity of UNRWA and its officials from legal proceedings.
"This is in line with the UN legal framework, particularly the 1946 Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations."
US District Judge Annalisa Torres ruled that, as part of the United Nations, UNRWA is protected from such lawsuits under international law.
