Man associated with organized crime gets shot dead in Canada
(MENAFN) Reports indicate that a man linked to organized crime was killed and two others were seriously injured in a brazen daylight shooting at a Starbucks in Laval, just north of Montreal.
The victim was identified as Charalambos Theologou, also known as “Bobby the Greek,” who had ties to the Chomedey Greeks gang. The two injured men were also believed to be members of the same group.
The attack happened around 10:30 a.m. local time at a busy shopping plaza near Highway 440 and 100th Avenue. Police said they arrived after receiving a 911 call, as the coffee shop and surrounding stores were crowded with customers at the time.
Quebec Public Security Minister Ian Lafreniere told reporters the shooting appeared to be a targeted act connected to organized crime, noting that he did not believe any "innocent victims" were harmed.
Theologou had a long history with law enforcement, having previously run an extortion operation in Laval. His criminal record included convictions for conspiracy, weapons offenses, and drug trafficking. He had served four years in prison for conspiracy and aggravated assault in 2007, followed by a five-year sentence for drug trafficking in 2010.
Authorities confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing.
