U.S. Greenlights Potential USD1.75B HIMARS Sale to Canada
(MENAFN) The U.S. State Department has given the green light for a potential $1.75 billion deal to supply Canada with M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and associated equipment, the Pentagon announced Wednesday.
According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, this sale aims to enhance Canada's ability to counter current and emerging threats by delivering the advanced M142 HIMARS long-range precision strike system along with munitions.
"The proposed sale will improve Canada’s ability to meet current and future threats by providing the M142 HIMARS long range precision strike system and munitions.
"This capability will protect Canada by improving Canada’s contribution to collective hemispheric defense and to defense and deterrence in Europe, as directed by NATO’s defense plans," the statement added.
Lockheed Martin, based in Texas, will serve as the primary contractor for the transaction.
