Palestinian UN Envoy: Trump's Gaza Plan Depends On Right To Self-Determination

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, Oct 2 (KUNA) -- Palestine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Riyad Mansour, stated that the success of President Donald Trump's peace plan hinges on Palestinian self-determination and the independence of the State of Palestine.
This came in a statement delivered by Mansour during a session held by the United Nations General Assembly Wednesday evening regarding the United States' use of the veto power last month against a Security Council draft resolution on Gaza.
He expressed appreciation for Trump's important efforts to end bloodshed and save lives, and stressed his clear rejection of the annexation of Palestinian land and the forced displacement of the Palestinian people, as reflected in the announced plan.
The Palestinian envoy added that such momentum for peace, has never been witnessed before, which is required by the duty all share to end the horrors the region has endured over the past two years and end the massive humanitarian suffering that shames all.
The session was held under a procedure known as the "Veto Initiative," adopted by the General Assembly in April 2022, which mandates an automatic meeting within ten days after any permanent Security Council member uses a veto, enabling all UN Member States to review and comment on the decision.
