Ladakh Student Bodies Seek Judicial Probe Into Leh Killings

By Syed Hashim

New Delhi – Several Ladakh student associations from across the country have jointly written to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), demanding a judicial inquiry into the recent violence in Leh on September 24 that claimed four lives and left dozens injured.

In a memorandum addressed to the Union Home Minister, the associations said the incident had caused“profound grief and unease” within the Ladakhi community and required timely, transparent intervention to uphold justice and restore public confidence.

The students urged that an impartial judicial inquiry be ordered under the supervision of a sitting High Court Judge to examine the circumstances that led to the deaths and injuries.“A transparent process will not only ensure accountability but also strengthen trust in the rule of law,” the memorandum stated.

The associations also appealed for dignified government employment for bereaved families, substantial financial compensation, and full medical coverage for the injured. They demanded the immediate lifting of restrictions in Leh and the release of youths detained during the protests, including environmentalist Dr. Sonam Wangchuk.
