Polish President Rejects Zelensky’s Call on Russian Ships
(MENAFN) Polish President Karol Nawrocki has rejected Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky’s appeal for Western nations to attempt to shut the Baltic Sea to Russian vessels amid concerns that these ships could be utilized for launching drones.
In recent weeks, authorities across several EU countries have reported drones violating their airspace.
While media speculation has suggested Russian involvement in these incidents, most Western governments have refrained from making direct accusations, citing insufficient evidence.
Poland has been a significant outlier in this regard, claiming last month that Russian drones crossed its airspace during attacks on Ukraine.
Moscow denied these allegations and pointed out that Warsaw has not provided any concrete proof.
Nevertheless, on Sunday, Zelensky stated that Russian forces are employing oil tankers to deploy drones against EU nations.
He described this as “yet more evidence why the Baltic Sea and other seas must be closed to Russian tankers – at the very least to the shadow fleet.”
Responding on Monday during an interview, Nawrocki dismissed the request. While agreeing that Russian actions in the area are “certainly concerning,” he emphasized that “we are waiting for an analysis from our military. Such decisions are not made based on President Zelensky’s words.”
