Israeli Warship Intercepts Global Sumud Flotilla

(MENAFN) A sizable naval vessel was observed early Wednesday morning in close proximity to the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla, prompting organizers to declare a heightened state of alert in the surrounding waters.

Communication was briefly lost with the Alma, the flotilla’s primary vessel, but it was later re-established, according to a journalist who is accompanying the mission.

As reported by the correspondent, an Israeli naval craft approached within a mere five feet of the Alma, interfering with all of its onboard communication systems and disabling its engine.

These disruptions rendered the ship temporarily immobile and unable to maintain contact.

The journalist further noted that the individuals aboard the Alma discarded their mobile phones into the sea, following pre-established safety measures designed for such encounters.

Subsequently, the Israeli ship reportedly withdrew from the vicinity, enabling the flotilla to continue navigating toward the coastline of the Gaza Strip.

This flotilla is part of an initiative aimed at confronting Israel's blockade on Gaza.

Organizers stated that the vessels are currently positioned approximately 121 nautical miles (225 kilometers) from the coastal territory under siege.
