Qatar's Focus Is On Ending Suffering Of Gazans: PM

Doha, Qatar: Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani has said that what U S President Donald Trump presented on Monday regarding Gaza consists of principles in a plan that require discussion of its details and how to implement them.

Speaking to Al Jazeera yesterday, the Prime Minister said that the plan is still in its early stages and needs development and clarification, especially concerning the mechanisms for Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

He confirmed that his country delivered President Trump's Gaza plan to the Hamas negotiating delegation during a meeting held on Monday in Doha, noting that the movement acted responsibly and promised to study the plan. He emphasised that a final response requires internal consensus among Palestinian factions and called on all parties to view the plan constructively and take advantage of the opportunity to end the war.

The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that Qatar's current primary focus is ending the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, including stopping the killing, displacement, and famine.

He added that Arab and Islamic countries, including Egypt and Turkiye, are making significant efforts to support the Palestinians, enable them to remain on their land, and achieve a two-state solution, and that these countries would welcome participation in supporting Palestinians if the plan is accepted.

The Prime Minister further said,“The plan, when we received it yesterday (on Monday), meaning after President Trump's announcement, we delivered it at the same night to Hamas and the negotiating delegation. The discussion with them was in general terms, and there was no clarity even on some points. But we hope that everyone looks at the matter constructively and that we can use the current momentum to end the war in Gaza.”

He added,“Of course, there will be practical and operational challenges because the details of these outlines do not yet exist. But if we enter the negotiation process in detail, I believe these challenges will start to appear.”

“At the same time, we must also look at the opportunities. There are challenges and opportunities. The opportunity is that, in a unified position, everyone agrees on stopping the war, preventing displacement, and achieving a full withdrawal of the Israeli army. These are three main and pivotal issues, and the people of Gaza are directly responsible for managing Gaza.”
