Qatar, Egypt Hand Hamas Trump's Plan To End War In Gaza: Mofa Spokesperson

Doha, Qatar: Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari has said that the US President's plan represents a comprehensive vision to end the war in Gaza.

“It is something that Qatar has sought from the day one. We have devoted our efforts to ending this war, facilitating the entry of aid, and steering the region towards safety after this prolonged escalation,” he said, while addressing the media yesterday.

To a question about Israeli apology to Qatar on September 9 attack, he said that the United States had given security assurances to Qatar and Israel had promised not to attack it again in a phone call on Monday night.

“The security assurances and the commitments that were offered in the call yesterday (Monday) by President Trump and the Israeli prime minister were very clear and were under the guarantee of the US president that Qatar will never be attacked.”

He said that Qatar and Egypt had handed the President Trump's proposal to Hamas on Monday night.“The Hamas negotiating delegation promised to study it responsibly... there will also be another meeting today (Tuesday) which will also be attended by the Turkish side, with the negotiating delegation.”

Dr. Al Ansari said that Qatar highly values the US commitment to ending the war in the Gaza Strip. To a question about President Trump's announcement of creating a“Peace Council,” he said,“Qatar welcomes American engagement to end the war in Gaza, and for acting as a guarantor in implementing the plan. Consultations are underway regarding the composition of this council as announced by the US President.”

He also reiterated Qatar's steadfast support for Gaza.“Qatar is ready to take on any role that contributes to rebuilding the enclave and assisting its people in the aftermath of the ongoing Israeli onslaught.

“Qatar remains committed to providing all possible support aimed at ending the war and contributing to reconstruction efforts.” Regarding engagements with Hamas on the proposed Gaza plan, he said that Egyptian intelligence chief participated in Monday's meeting, while Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin will join today's (Tuesday) session.

“The presence of Qatari, Egyptian, and Turkish officials follows a meeting in New York between several Arab and Islamic leaders and the US President, which broadened participation in the initiative to include these states.”

On Israeli Prime Minister's apology to the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, he said,“Our priority is safeguarding Qatar's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens and residents, and ensuring that such incidents do not recur.”

Al Ansari said that the meetings in New York and the announcements by more than 12 states recognising the State of Palestine sent a clear message to Israel that the occupation is unacceptable globally, and that international consensus on a Palestinian state cannot be broken by unilateral Israeli decisions.
