JKP Fight Terror, Drugs While Empowering Youth: DGP

Srinagar- Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Tuesday said that Jammu and Kashmir Police are not only fighting terrorism and narcotics but are also actively engaging youth through sports and rehabilitation initiatives.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 20th J&K Police Martyr's Memorial Football Tournament 2025, DGP Prabhat highlighted the force's dual focus on security and social engagement.

The tournament was held in memory of the 1,614 police personnel who have sacrificed their lives in service.“Four personnel were killed this year in an operation in Kathua district. The families of the martyrs have received financial assistance, including ex-gratia and relief through state and central schemes, banks, and police welfare funds,” he said.

Each martyr's family receives Rs 1 lakh in direct support, along with additional assistance for daughters' marriages and children's education, including private schooling up to Class 12. Martyrs' children also have access to free education in police public schools and scholarships for higher studies, including postgraduate, medical, and doctoral courses. In 2025, five family members of martyrs were appointed to government service.

Highlighting youth initiatives, the DGP said the police regularly organise sporting events, including upcoming cricket tournaments in Kathua and Kishtwar, along with past events like Jashn-e-Dal, Pedal for Peace, Marathon Run for Peace, and the“Run for Fun” in Jammu. The force has also hosted national-level football, hockey, and water sports championships.

On the rehabilitation front, the police run 10 drug de-addiction centres across the Union Territory, treating over 200 inpatients this year. Legal action continues against drug traffickers, but rehabilitation efforts remain a priority.
