Senate Committee Concludes Session On Pwds In Aqaba, Maan

Aqaba, Sept. 30 (Petra) – The Senate Committee on Persons with Disabilities, chaired by Senator Asia Yaghi, concluded its discussion sessions today, Tuesday, in the governorates of Aqaba and Maan. The sessions were organized in partnership with the I Am a Human Society for Rights of Persons with Disability, chaired by Ihsan Khaldi, and the Christian Blind Mission (CBM), headed by Sabreen Dwaib, CBM's Eastern Mediterranean Country Representative.
The final session marked the 35th meeting dedicated to reviewing the experiences of persons with disabilities and their families, alongside experts, academics, and activists from civil society organizations. The aim was to identify challenges faced on the ground and incorporate them into recommendations for amending certain provisions of the Persons with Disabilities Rights Law No. (20) of 2017.
PwDs Experts and academics, including Anan Abu Maryam, Osama Tahrawi, and Manar Mdanat, highlighted key practical challenges hindering the implementation of the law. Representatives from associations in Ma'an and Aqaba, along with persons with disabilities and their families, shared personal experiences reflecting the daily obstacles they encounter.
Participants, including experts, Senators and MPs, discussed the main outcomes reached by the committee in previous sessions to develop comprehensive and practical recommendations.
The session saw the participation of Senators, including Chair of the Women's Committee Khawla Al-Armouti, Chair of the Labor and Social Development Committee Issa Murad, Aqaba Senators Nasima Al-Fakhri and Sharhabil Madi, and Aqaba MP Hussein Kreishan.
