AARO Now Offers U.S.-Based Bank Accounts For Its Members Living Overseas
[PARIS, FRANCE]: Today, the Association of Americans Resident Overseas (AARO) announced a new partnership with State Department Federal Credit Union (SDFCU) to provide U.S. based banking services for Americans living abroad.
For many Americans living overseas, having a bank account based in the U.S. is a vital necessity to receive benefits, pay taxes and make local transactions. However, getting and keeping a U.S. based account has become more difficult due to the increasingly stringent enforcement of various laws and regulations by banks and the government.
Under this new partnership, American members of AARO will be able to set up a U.S. based bank account using their foreign address, no matter where they live around the world. In addition, SDFCU provides additional banking services such as credit cards, auto loans, IRAs, high-yield share certificates, international money transfers, and digital banking.
Members of AARO applying for accounts need not live in the U.S. nor do they have to have a U.S. address. Applications can be made online, and SDFCU provides an app for mobile banking services.
Doris L. Speer, President of AARO says“AARO is very excited about this new partnership. Many of AARO's members have contacted us in desperation looking for a U.S. banking option, so an SDFCU account will help them. AARO has been advocating vigorously for changes in laws and regulations to improve bank access, and we are pleased to offer this practical solution. AARO is committed to helping Americans abroad.”
SDFCU's Board of Directors Chair, Marlene Schwartz, echoed Ms. Speer's excitement about the partnership, adding, "We are thrilled to partner with AARO to provide banking solutions that support their global membership. SDFCU's services are designed for accessibility across borders, making this collaboration a natural extension of our mission. Together, we share a commitment to meeting the financial needs of Americans living abroad, and we look forward to strengthening this partnership in the years to come."
More information about this new partnership and its benefits for Americans living abroad can be found on the AARO website including the FAQ's.
