China’s Xi Honors Nation’s Fallen Heroes

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping led the country in honoring fallen heroes during the annual "Martyrs' Day," a poignant occasion dedicated to remembering those who gave their lives for China.

This year’s commemoration also marks the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Xi, accompanied by other senior officials from both the Communist Party of China and the state, participated in a solemn ceremony at Tiananmen Square in Beijing. The event featured the presentation of flower baskets to honor the martyrs, according to media.

Tiananmen Square, historically known for the 1989 protests, has become a symbol of remembrance for the nation’s fallen heroes. China has officially observed National Martyrs' Day every year on September 30 since 2014.

The nation will also celebrate National Day on October 1, marking the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.
