BRUSSELS, Sept 29 (KUNA) -- EU Leaders welcomed on Monday the victory of pro-European forces in Moldova's parliamentary elections held on Sunday, stressing that the outcome marked a triumph for democracy and a European future despite external pressures.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a post on X platform that "Moldova, you've done it again, no attempt to sow fear or division could break your resolve." She added, "Your choice was clear: Europe, democracy, freedom. Our doors are open, and we will stand with you every step of the way, the future is yours."
For his part, European Council President Antonio Costa said in a similar post that the people of Moldova "chose democracy, reform, and a European future in the face of pressure and interference from Russia," adding that "the EU stands with Moldova, every step of the way."
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola also underlined that "Moldova's future is in Europe," describing the vote as a historic moment in which the people "chose the path of democracy, hope, and opportunities."
In turn, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said in a post on (X) that "Moldova's vote is a clear yes to a European future," stressing that "despite Russia's massive efforts to spread disinformation and buy votes, no force can stop a people committed to freedom."
