Four people get killed, eight get harmed due to shooting at Michigan church


(MENAFN) Law enforcement stated that 4 people have lost their lives and 8 got harmed after a shooter began shooting at a Mormon church in Grand Blanc Township in the US state of Michigan on Sunday morning.

Grand Blanc Police Chief William Renye informed journalists that the discovery of more bodies in the church brought the total of the victims to four.

Renye confirmed there is a total of "five deceased persons from this tragic incident" to date, noting that the suspect was killed during a gun clash with officers.

The Grand Blanc Township Police Department stated sooner in an announcement that "we do not have names of victims at this time."

According to the police chief, the 40-year-old suspect first drove his vehicle through the front doors of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, then got out and began "firing several rounds at individuals within the church."

The suspect has been identified by Michigan authorities as Thomas Jacob Sanford, an Ex US Marine who served in the Iraq war and lives in Burton.

Previously, Renye stated that "the service was active. There were hundreds of people within the church."
