Russia, Ethiopia Deepen Nuclear, Strategic Ties
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Moscow following their participation in the Global Atomic Forum.
The Ethiopian leader had earlier emphasized his country’s aspiration to establish a “safe and transparent” nuclear initiative.
According to a statement from the Kremlin, discussions on Thursday included the signing of an action plan aimed at advancing a nuclear energy project in Ethiopia.
The document was exchanged between Rosatom’s head, Aleksey Likhachev, and Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gedion Timotheos.
Putin remarked to Abiy, “Our relations are gaining momentum across all areas, and we are very pleased that things are going that way,” highlighting the growing cooperation between the two nations.
Abiy, in turn, characterized the partnership as “very strong,” adding that “enhancing this historical background to make better the future is very important.”
He also stated that Ethiopia was looking to build a strategic alliance with Russia, and that his visit to Moscow would contribute to deepening these bonds.
In a separate release from Abiy’s office, it was noted that the leaders explored “a wide range of issues,” such as energy, agriculture, healthcare, military collaboration, and formal agreements to cooperatively develop a nuclear power station for sustainable energy and civilian benefit.
