Marc Marquez Secures Seventh MotoGP World Championship
(MENAFN) Marc Marquez of the Ducati Lenovo Team secured his seventh MotoGP world championship on Sunday following a dramatic race at the Motegi Circuit in Japan.
The 17th round of the MotoGP season, a 24-lap contest, saw Francesco Bagnaia, Marquez’s teammate, cross the line first with a time of 42 minutes and 9.312 seconds, taking the victory by a margin of 4.196 seconds. Joan Mir of Honda HRC Castrol followed in third, finishing 6.858 seconds behind Bagnaia.
Though Marquez placed second in the race, the result was enough for him to seal his seventh career title, matching the legendary Valentino Rossi with seven championship victories.
In an emotional moment, Marquez, fighting back tears, reflected on the monumental achievement. "It's impossible even to speak. I just want to enjoy the moment, but it was indeed difficult; it was super difficult, but now I’m at peace with myself," he said.
The 32-year-old Spaniard acknowledged the struggles leading up to his success, admitting to a major misstep in his recovery. "I made a big mistake in my career, to come back too early (from surgery), and then I fight, fight, fight—and I won again! So I’m at peace," he added.
The next event on the calendar is the Indonesia MotoGP Grand Prix, set for October 5.
