Kazakhstan Hands Over Humanitarian Aid To Afghanistan

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Kazakhstan handed over 26 wagons of humanitarian aid that arrived through Torghundi port to Afghan officials in western Herat province on Thursday.

Governor's spokesman Mufti Mohammad Yousuf Saeedi said the aid was sent via Torghundi port in 16 consignments and was handed over to officials from the Natural Disaster Management Authority of the province.

He said Kazakh Ambassador in Kabul Gaziz Akbasov, along with his accompanying delegation, was also present at the port during the handover.

Meanwhile, during his visit to Herat, the Kazakh ambassador said his country remained committed to continuing humanitarian cooperation with Afghanistan and that this assistance was part of Kazakhstan's long-term programme to support the Afghan people.

For their part, Herat local officials expressed appreciation for Kazakhstan's attention and cooperation and stressing that the aid could play an important role in improving the living conditions of underprivileged families.

According to officials, the assistance includes 720 tonnes of flour, 130 tonnes of sugar, 500 tents and 2,000 blankets, which are set to be distributed among needy families in Herat and some neighbouring provinces.
