India Conducts Successful Flight Test of Advanced Agni Prime Missile

(MENAFN) India has successfully carried out the flight test of its advanced Agni Prime intermediate-range ballistic missile, the Defense Ministry announced Thursday.

For the first time, the missile was launched Wednesday from a specially engineered rail-based mobile launcher, operating “under a full operational scenario,” the ministry said.

This rail-based system offers unprecedented flexibility, capable of moving freely across the rail network to provide cross-country mobility, rapid reaction times, and stealthy deployment, with a strike range extending up to 2,000 kilometers (1,242 miles).

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the achievement, stating, “The successful flight test has put India in the group of select nations having capabilities that have developed a canisterised launch system from an on-the-move rail network.”

The Agni Prime missile is a nuclear-capable, next-generation variant in the Agni missile family. India has previously conducted successful flight tests of this system, reinforcing its strategic deterrence capabilities.
