Syrian Embassy Reopens In Washington After Over A Decade

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) After more than eleven years of closure, the Syrian Embassy in Washington reopened, hailed by Damascus as a historic step towards restoring bilateral ties and dialogue.

The Syrian Embassy in Washington reopened on Friday after being closed for more than a decade, an event Syrian officials hailed as a“historic moment.”

Foreign Minister Asad al-Shibani attended the reopening ceremony, raising Syria's new flag over the embassy building. He described the move as a symbol of 14 years of resilience.

Al-Shibani said the restoration of diplomatic representation in the United States offers a new opportunity to improve bilateral ties and create fresh channels of dialogue.

The embassy was shut in 2014 after the escalation of Syria's internal conflict and Washington's decision to sever official relations with Damascus at the height of the crisis.

Observers view the reopening not only as a sign of shifting political approaches between Syria and the U.S. but also as part of Syria's gradual re-entry into global diplomacy.

The revival of Syria's mission in Washington comes amid a broader trend of regional states re-establishing ties with Damascus, following years of isolation during the civil war.

Reorts indicated, that while the reopening marks progress, deep divisions remain over issues such as Syria's human rights record and its alliances in regional conflicts.
