Japan Reports First Clade 1b Mpox Case

(MENAFN) Japanese health officials announced on Tuesday that a woman in her 20s, recently returned from Africa, has tested positive for mpox in Kobe.

Genetic analysis revealed she contracted the Clade 1b variant, marking the inaugural identification of this virus strain within Japan’s borders.

This particular strain has previously been documented in regions of Central Africa.

The patient reported fever and skin lesions, prompting her to seek medical attention in Kobe on September 12. Authorities noted that her health condition remains stable.

Officials emphasized that there is currently no evidence suggesting any community spread of the virus in Japan.
